Sports Medicine Fellowship

Goals and Characteristics of this Fellowship: Offers exposure to all areas of sports medicine, including knee, shoulder, elbow, and ankle surgery as well as hip arthroscopy. The fellow will be within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The responsibilities will involve a close relationship with all the attendings in the sports clinic as well as in the operating room. Fellows will interact with and teach residents and medical students. Educational program includes sports medicine and departmental conferences and journal clubs. Team coverage and event management are part of the educational experience with the San Francisco 49ers Professional Football Organization, the Golden State Warriors (NBA), the San Jose Earthquakes (MLS), and Stanford teams as well as other local colleges, and other professional, recreational and competitive events. Exposure to arthroscopic sports medicine procedures as well as open reconstructive procedures of the knee, shoulder, ankle, hip and elbow comprise the operative experience. Operative time is available both in the outpatient and inpatient settings. The department will send the fellow to one major conference. One day a week as allotted for research. Research opportunities exist in biomechanics, stem cell and tissue engineering, radiology and clinical outcomes. The fellow is expected to publish a peer review journal article prior to completion of the fellowship. Fellows must have a California Medical License and be Board Certified or Board eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery before beginning the Fellowship.
Cadaver lab facilities available at Stanford for training and research as well as an onsite Arthroscopy Skills laboratory.
