Hand Surgery Fellowship

This fellowship is designed to train a Board-eligible orthopaedic or plastic surgeon dedicated to the study of the upper limb. The Robert A. Chase Hand & Upper Limb Center at Stanford is an interdisciplinary program, representing two departments: Plastic Surgery in the Department of Surgery, and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Our faculty members are Dr. V.R. Hentz, Dr. Amy Ladd, Dr. James Chang, Dr. Jeffrey Yao, and Dr. Robert A. Chase (Emeritus). The Fellow is thus exposed to a breadth of problems affecting the hand, shoulder, and elbow. The clinical experience at Stanford includes disorders affecting adults, primarily reconstruction and trauma, as well as athletic injuries. The microvascular experience is gained at Stanford. The clinical experience at Packard Children's Hospital focuses primarily on congenital hand anomalies and brachial plexus injuries. The VA experience is primarily reconstructive in nature, in addition to the disorders affecting patients with spinal cord injuries. The Fellow plays an integral role in didactic education, contributing and organizing aspects of weekly conferences, anatomy sessions, and informal teaching sessions with the residents. The fellowship logically fosters clinical research. Basic science research opportunities are available through the VA and through interdisciplinary efforts.

This one-year fellowship begins each year on August 1 and is ACGME-accredited. There is a stipend.
