About Us

The Human Performance Lab (HPL) is a team of multi-displinary clinicians and researchers that provide state-of-the-art approaches to injury prevention research and testing.

Research

The key theme of the HPL is "Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport and Exercise" with translational medicine being at the heart of all inter-displinary HPL research projects.

Testing

A primary focus of the HPL is to provide services to Stanford Athletes to optimize performance and reduce the risk of injury. The community also has access to the HPL through RunSafe and body composition testing.

Teaching/Internship

The HPL staff and faculty teach classes in the Human Biology and BioEngineering departments at Stanford. Also, undergraduate Stanford students can apply here to work in the HPL on current research projects.

The Human Performance Laboratory is a center for excellence in sport science providing a unique link between Stanford’s prestigious Athletics program, the School of Medicine, and various Academic Departments within the University. We provide sport science services to Stanford’s 900 varsity athletes and the greater Stanford Community, and perform interdisciplinary research integrating fields of biomechanics, biomedical engineering, physiology and exercise physiology, orthopaedics, mechanobiology, and exercise rehabilitation.
