BIO: Dan grew up in rural Illinois, outside of Chicago, riding horses and mowing fields. He is married to Kate, who will be working remotely for an Equipment Finance Company and they have 2 young children. Dan has run marathons and triathlons, while enjoying other outdoor sports and his Chicago teams

Adam Money, MD

BIO: Adam grew up in Greenwood, Indiana (a bit south of Indianapolis), where he was a three sport athlete. He was a History of Science and History of Medicine double major at Yale, while being a two time All Ivy league defensive back for the Bulldogs. He met his future wife, Ally, while at Yale, where she was the captain of the Ivy League Champion Volleyball team. He followed Ally to Washington DC and obtained his medical degree at Georgetown University. He subsequently completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of South Carolina Program in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Money has demonstrated ingenuity in making his own QR code for links to instructional videos he has made for resident and medical student education. In addition to spending time with Ally and their young daughter, he enjoys bass fishing, golf, and playing pick-up basketball.

Iain Murray, MBChB, PhD

BIO: Iain Murray is from Scotland, where he was born and raised. He holds an undergraduate degree in Sports Science Medicine from the University of Edinburgh. He completed medical school and a PhD in Musculoskeletal Regeneration at the University of Edinburgh as well, and completed his residency training at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He was a top ranked junior tennis player, having been a doubles partner of (Wimbledon champ) Andy Murray, and was an international Squash Player (also athletic scholarship for Squash in college). In addition to many publications and research awards, he likes to play bagpipes and loves to play and watch sports, including skiing, squash and golf, and being outdoors. Iain and his wife, Katie, a family physician, spent a year in California while doing a research fellowship in Tissue Regeneration in the lab of Bruno Peault at UCLA 7 years ago, but this time returns with their three young children in tow.  After fellowship at Stanford, he will be returning to Scotland, and will be working with Fares Haddad covering NFL Europe games.

W. Michael Pullen, MD

BIO: Mike has the distinguished honor of applying to (and being offered interviews for) our fellowship the most times ever for our program – because the Navy kept denying a deferment each time after he applied. Mike is from Northern Virginia. He was a baseball pitcher and scholar-athlete at Christopher Newport University in Virginia, where he majored in Biology, with minors in Leaderships Studies and Chemistry. He received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and did his residency at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He has spent the last 4 years as a Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Navy, having served in Yokosuka, Japan, and Portsmouth, VA. He has received many awards and commendations for his work in the Navy. He has wanted to attend Stanford since High School and now joins us at Stanford with his wife, Melissa, and their two children. He enjoys traveling and cycling, as well as spending time with his family.

Jacob Calcei, MD

BIO: Dr. Calcei specializes in the treatment of acute injuries and chronic conditions of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle. He played high school football, college baseball, and never wavered in his desire to become an orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in Sports Medicine. He gained invaluable experience as the San Francisco 49ers fellow, and has returned to Ohio to work with the Cleveland Browns.

Ian Gao, MD

BIO:  Dr. Gao decided to pursue a career in orthopaedic surgery while studying biomedical engineering in college. His love of sports served him well as the physician for a high school football team, and his desire to serve his community sparked the creation of a monthly volunteer Sports Medicine clinic for underserved school athletes. After fellowship, he headed home to South Carolina, where he specializes in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the shoulder, hip and knee.

Manuel Schubert, MD

BIO: Dr. Schubert’s philosophy is to provide individualized care to best help patients achieve their goals, whether that involves returning to a high level of athletic competition or simply getting back to the playing field of life. During residency, he helped care for the University of Michigan men’s basketball, ice hockey, and football teams. While in fellowship here at Stanford, he served as one of the team physicians for the football team. He has been active in high-level clinical and translational research, for which he has received numerous research awards, including the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Clinical Research Award in 2018.

BIO: Throughout his career, Dr. Sochacki has assisted in the care of amateur, collegiate, and professional athletes. During his fellowship, he worked with the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Athletics, Stanford University Men’s Soccer and Women’s Basketball. Dr. Sochacki is also active in research and several professional societies. He has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on return to sport outcomes in MLB, MLS, NBA, NFL, and NHL players and the clinical results of shoulder, elbow, and knee surgery. Upon completion of his fellowship, he returned to Ohio, and specializes in, among other things, joint preservation and cartilage restoration.

Paul joingin Penn State Sports Medicine in State College will ensure greater access for the community, while providing a greater range of treatment options for patients with a variety of orthopedic conditions.

Abdurrahman Kandil, MD

BIO: Brian J. Rebolledo, MD, specializes in sports-related injuries of the hip, knee, shoulder and elbow. His advanced training includes a focus on hip preservation/femoroacetabular impingement aimed at correcting developmental disorders and athletic injuries of the hip in active patients.
