Increased Prevalence of Breast and
All-Cause Cancer in Female
Orthopaedic Surgeons

With an increasing percentage of women in orthopaedic surgery, it is imperative that we study and understand the occupational risks for this population to mitigate risks.

Dr. Loretta Chou, with multiple collaborators including Stanford Orthopaedic Surgery facutly Dr. Amy Ladd and Dr. Stephanie Pun, and former resident Dr. Lauren Shapiro, conducted a study on the risks and increase of breast caner and all-cause cancer amongst female orthopaedic surgeons.

Our findings strongly suggest that female orthopaedic surgeons are at a higher risk of breast cancer than the general US female population.
